Hi, I’m Katja. I spent the month of July 2021 creating a website and branding strategy for Borger International Consulting Group.

This landing page contains full account and project updates from the past month.

Enjoy!

Why I Chose This Project. I chose to do this project for a few different reasons. Below are the main reasons I decided to build a website and create a branding strategy.

To showcase my creative side. I have a passion for creativity that often I even forget about. Taking on a project that is surrounded by creativity really helps me showcase and grow my skills in web design and creative thinking.

To challenge myself. I wanted to take on a challenge while still knowing that I am able to create and add value. The most challenging part of this project was that Borger International had no face whatsoever when I started. Often I will create a new website based on an old website but with this one, I was coming up with ideas as I created. I definitely think that this project challenged and stretched me in a new way that I hadn’t experienced before.

To help others while helping myself. One of the main reasons I chose this project over any other was because I was helping a true company gain true value. During this project, I was able to give the company visibility and a face as opposed to creating hypothetical value for a hypothetical company.

Project Goals

  • To create a professional face and feel for Borger International Consulting Group (BICG).

  • To have a full website complete with an about, service, blog, and contact page.

  • To have an effective way to brand and market BICG.

What I Accomplished

  • A finished and functional website.

  • About, service, blog, and contact page complete on the website.

  • A branding strategy guideline

  • 3 blog posts for the BICG website

  • Wrote five blog posts for documentation

  • Created five documentation videos

  • Showcased the tech tools I used through video

Completed Website and Branding Strategy!

What I Would Do Differently.

For the most part, I feel like I would do almost everything the same as I had done it. I would definitely handle a couple of things differently though.

Managing time

This is a big one. I was in the process of moving and working while undertaking this project but I definitely feel like I could have made better use of the time I did have. The first two weeks I was just working on my project when I had an open time slot. By week three I had a pretty good grasp of my schedule and was able to get everything done more efficiently.

Overall Project Layout

I had two main components of my project; Website design and branding strategy. Both of these had many small steps within them. If I were to redo the project I would have spent two weeks creating the website and two weeks designing the branding. I think the overall project would have had more efficiency and structure.

Bumps in the Road

Feeling Overwhelmed

I got overwhelmed more than a few times during this project. There were so many steps and looking at them I never thought I would be able to get everything done in just 30 days. Honestly, all it took to get over this feeling was a deep breath and perspective.

Having an organization tool and actually using it, makes a world of difference. It really helps you visualize your goals and what you need to do in order to achieve them.

I felt really guilty about it at the time but I took a whole “me day”. I lost a full day of project work I could have been doing but I am also working two jobs so having a whole day just to rejuvenate felt incredible! Highly recommend it!

Time management

If you have been following my week one and two updates, you know that I really struggled with managing my time. All it took to get over that was a little more scheduling and better use of Trello, and Google calendar. Removing distractions such as emails or text messages was important as well.

Final Thoughts

Thank you to everyone who has shared in this journey with me. I have learned so much throughout this month. I learned more about myself than anything though.

Most valuable lessons.

  1. I can’t function without a set schedule, to-do list, and strong espresso.

  2. Deciding what my most important tasks are instead of doing everything haphazardly.
